Hilary Hawke is a dynamic banjoist, vocalist, composer, and educator whose music bridges traditional bluegrass and old-time roots with original songwriting and adventurous improvisation. Based in New York, Hilary has become a respected voice in today’s bluegrass and Americana scene, not only for her expressive banjo playing and compelling songs, but also for her deep knowledge of the tradition. She currently teaches at Columbia University, leads the school’s Bluegrass Ensemble, and is a familiar presence at major roots music camps and festivals around the country.
Many listeners may already know Hilary from the Broadway stage: she was the original banjoist for the Tony Award-winning revival of Oklahoma! and has performed or arranged music for productions including Bright Star, Swept Away, and Illinoise. Her playing has been praised by The New Yorker, No Depression, The Bluegrass Situation, and Americana UK for its clarity, joy, and authenticity, earning her a reputation as both a master of the instrument and a thoughtful innovator within the genre.
The Hilary Hawke Band, formed in 2022, features Hilary on banjo and vocals alongside guitarist Ross Martin and fiddler Camille Howes. We’re excited to welcome High Horse to the Westchester Bluegrass Club Summer Stage on Sunday, June 14, for an evening of acoustic string band music that’s deeply rooted and quietly adventurous.
Based in Boston, High Horse is a progressive-acoustic string band drawing from bluegrass, old-time, Celtic, and folk traditions. The band features Carson McHaney on fiddle, Karl Henry on cello, G Rockwell on guitar and banjo, and Noah Harrington on bass. Together, they create a sound that respects the traditional string band framework while expanding its range in thoughtful, musical ways.
All four musicians met while studying at leading conservatories, including Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. That background shows not in flash or showmanship, but in listening, restraint, and how tightly the band plays together. High Horse emphasizes ensemble playing over solos for their own sake, letting tunes unfold naturally and keeping the focus on musical conversation.
Finalists in the 2024 FreshGrass Awards, High Horse has been praised for their virtuosic chops and tight vocals. Their debut album, released in December 2024, was produced by mandolin great Jacob Jolliff and engineered by Grammy-winner Dave Sinko, and showcases a genre-bending approach to acoustic music that remains grounded in tradition.

Molsky continues to be one of the most innovative and dedicated tradition-bearers in American roots music. His recent projects include Lockdown Breakdown, a dynamic 2024 duet album with Darol Anger, and Everywhere You Go, his acclaimed 2022 solo guitar record. He tours and records actively, often with leading players like Tony Trischka, and performs with his trio, Molsky’s Mountain Drifters. Alongside his recording career, he serves as a Visiting Scholar in Berklee College of Music’s American Roots Program, passing on his knowledge to the next generation. His past work includes founding the international folk supergroup Mozaik and earning a Grammy nomination with the fiddle ensemble Fiddlers 4, as well as collaborations with artists such as Mark Knopfler and Anonymous 4.

Brooke Aldridge is a four-time consecutive winner of the IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year, known for her radiant voice and ability to make every lyric feel personal. Becky Buller is a celebrated multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and prolific songwriter whose work has helped shape modern bluegrass. Hailing from St. James, Minnesota, she has performed around the world and written songs for three Grammy Award-winning albums, including “Freedom” (The Infamous Stringdusters), “The Shaker” (The Travelin’ McCourys), and “Good-bye Girl” (Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway). Her songs have also been recorded by Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, and Doyle Lawson, to name a few.
Becky is a 10-time IBMA award winner, including 2016’s historic wins as both Fiddler and Female Vocalist of the Year—the first artist to take home top honors in both vocal and instrumental categories. She continues to tour with the Becky Buller Band, and her new album, Jubilee, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart in June 2024. The Jacob Jolliff Band

One of the most dynamic and in-demand mandolinists in acoustic music today, Jacob Jolliff brings his blazing technique and inventive spirit to Lake Purdys for a special summer evening of bluegrass brilliance.
Jacob’s musical journey began at age 7 in Oregon and led him to a full scholarship at Berklee College of Music, where he studied under mandolin legend John McGann. He’s since earned national recognition as the 2012 National Mandolin Champion, toured internationally with Joy Kills Sorrow, and spent five years performing with Yonder Mountain String Band.
In 2022, Jacob joined Béla Fleck’s My Bluegrass Heart tour alongside some of bluegrass’s finest pickers, and he now leads The Jacob Jolliff Band, known for pushing the boundaries of bluegrass with virtuosic instrumental tunes and powerful vocal numbers. Their most recent album, Instrumentals Vol. 2: Mandolin Mysteries, released in May 2024, showcases Jacob's continued evolution as a composer and performer.

Holiday Cheer Tour
Music of the Season from Canada to the Ozarks
Joe Newberry and April Verch, both with their own outstanding careers in traditional American music come together on this duet project.
Newberry, widely known for his banjo and guitar playing, shared the 2013 IBMA “Song of the Year” Award for “They Called It Music.” with Eric Gibson. A longtime guest on A Prairie Home Companion, he was a featured singer on the Transatlantic Sessions 2016 tour of the U.K., and at the Transatlantic Session’s debut at Merlefest in 2017.
Verch Before launching her professional career, Verch was the first woman to win both the Canadian Grand Masters and Canadian Open Fiddling Championships. Her music and recordings have received JUNO, Canadian Folk Music and Independent Music nominations. She was one of six fiddlers who represented the Canadian fiddle tradition to the world at the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
