Greg Cahill, a Grammy-nominated banjo player, is a pillar of the bluegrass community and the driving force behind Special Consensus. Since founding the band in 1975, Cahill has led Special Consensus to international acclaim, blending traditional bluegrass with contemporary influences while maintaining a deep respect for the genre’s roots. His innovative banjo playing and dedication to the craft have earned him numerous accolades, including the Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA).

Special Consensus is known for its impeccable harmonies, masterful instrumentation, and engaging performances. Over the years, the band has released multiple award-winning albums, with several tracks earning IBMA awards and Grammy nominations. Westchester Bluegrass Club is thrilled to present an extraordinary evening of music featuring Michael Daves and Nate Sabat—two of the most innovative and compelling voices in modern bluegrass.
Michael Daves, a Grammy-nominated artist, is known for his electrifying guitar playing, high-lonesome vocals, and boundary-pushing approach to bluegrass. Raised in Georgia and now a cornerstone of New York City’s roots music scene, Michael has collaborated with legends like Chris Thile, Steve Martin, and Tony Trischka. His album Sleep With One Eye Open (with Thile) was Grammy-nominated, and Orchids and Violence showcased his genius in blending traditional and experimental bluegrass. With over 25 years of teaching experience, he’s not only a performer but also a mentor to the next generation of musicians.

Joining him is Nate Sabat, a virtuosic bassist, singer-songwriter, and arranger whose groundbreaking work has been featured on NPR’s Radiolab and at Carnegie Hall. His debut solo album, Bass Fiddler, produced by Bruce Molsky, redefines the role of the upright bass in folk music, intertwining intricate arrangements with stunning vocals. With a résumé that includes performances at Celtic Connections and the Savannah Music Festival, Nate’s artistry is both deeply rooted in tradition and refreshingly modern.

Rock Hearts, New England's premier bluegrass ensemble, is set to electrify the Westchester Bluegrass Club on March 2nd. Formed in 2013, this dynamic group has rapidly gained national recognition for their authentic sound and compelling performances. Their latest album, Unfinished Bridges, released in October 2024, has garnered significant acclaim, with several tracks topping bluegrass charts and receiving extensive airplay.

The band's lineup features seasoned musicians, including Billy Thibodeau, recently inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame; fiddler Austin Scelzo, a finalist for the 2024 IBMA Momentum Industry Involvement Award; lead vocalist and guitarist Alex MacLeod, a finalist in the IBMA World of Bluegrass Songwriter Showcase; bassist Rick Brodsky, who has also played with The Bluegrass Characters, a band formed in 2011 by the late Grammy-winning fiddler and Dobroist Stacy Phillips; and Joe Deetz, a renowned banjo player who has performed with The Joe Val Band and worked with music legends such as Bill Keith and Béla Fleck!

Holiday Cheer Tour
Music of the Season from Canada to the Ozarks
Joe Newberry and April Verch, both with their own outstanding careers in traditional American music come together on this duet project. ​​
​
Newberry, widely known for his banjo and guitar playing, shared the 2013 IBMA “Song of the Year” Award for “They Called It Music.” with Eric Gibson. A longtime guest on A Prairie Home Companion, he was a featured singer on the Transatlantic Sessions 2016 tour of the U.K., and at the Transatlantic Session’s debut at Merlefest in 2017.
​
Verch Before launching her professional career, Verch was the first woman to win both the Canadian Grand Masters and Canadian Open Fiddling Championships. Her music and recordings have received JUNO, Canadian Folk Music and Independent Music nominations. She was one of six fiddlers who represented the Canadian fiddle tradition to the world at the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.​
